When Superstorm Sandy ripped through New York City late last Oct. 29, more than 300 patients were evacuated from NYU’s Langone Medical Center with the help of the Med Sled® evacuation sleds, including 20 babies from the neonatal and pediatric intensive care units as well as 22 newborns. The effort, which continued overnight, required staffers to transport some new mothers down flights of stairs using the Med Sleds®, with one woman even receiving an epidural while on the Med Sled®.
NBC News recently revisited the littlest Sandy survivors, who are thriving one year later.
